Summary
Natalia, a Count’s daughter, dreads marriage because she perceives emotions as colored auras. Smiling maids radiate red hatred; kind teachers glow with anger. Unable to trust anyone, she ruins her debut and withdraws from society. Her brother Julian coaxes her to a royal ball, where overwhelming auras sicken her. Suddenly, a figure approaches, emitting such intense red rage and black malice that his form is obscured. Trembling, Natalia freezes—only to realize the terrifying presence is Prince Ludwig himself.
