Summary
After her parents’ tragic death, Elizabeth faces a law barring unmarried women from inheriting titles or wealth. With only a year to claim her fortune—equal to three decades of the empire’s budget—she resolves to flee rather than lose it all. The council plots to wed her to her uncle, whom she suspects of foul play in her parents’ demise. Refusing this fate, Elizabeth disguises her maid as a fake fiancé and escapes. But after a drunken night with a stranger who looks like her first love, she finds herself unable to shake him off. Now, accompanied by this enigmatic man, she embarks on a reckless spending spree, determined to drain her fortune and live free.
