Summary
Brielle’s eyes filled with desperation as he begged, “Ellie, I have to see Marie now.” But Ellie refused, standing her ground with a shake of her head.
“Not yet,” she repeated firmly.
“The butler told me she’s awake!” he protested.
Ellie paused, trying to find a way to delay him. If he rushed in now, he’d only walk into the middle of their strained situation.

“What is it?”
“This really isn’t a good moment.”
Brielle’s expression grew anxious at her hesitation. “Just tell me why!” he urged, but she stayed quiet.
“Did I do something wrong?”
“Yes.”
“What?”
She sighed. “Did you finish the assignments the Count gave you before he left? I hear you still have quite a bit left—and he’ll be checking soon.”
“You’re kidding…!”
